Find campgrounds near an interstate exit Start with the exit number on the green highway sign, not only the nearest city name on a billboard. 1. Pin the exit. Write the interstate number, direction of travel, and exit number. Study the roads leaving the interchange on a detailed map. 2. Search public land. Check state parks, national forests, Corps lakes, and BLM sites within a ten-mile radius of the ramp. 3. Compare private parks. RV parks and KOAs near busy exits may offer full hookups and late check-in when you need them. 4. Set a distance rule. If nothing suitable appears within ten miles, try the next exit with services instead of driving unfamiliar back roads after dark.
